Vivienne Westwood, the queen of punk will be 70 in april!

Unica, diversa, intramontabile. Vivienne Westwood compirà l’8 aprile settant’anni. Da più di trenta anni lavora nel campo della moda, conosciuta a livello internazionale, riesce ancora a far parlare di sé.

Donna forte, decisa, spesso fuori dalle righe ma con un unico obiettivo, lottare per un mondo migliore. Era il 1958 quando arrivò a Londra, lasciando la cittadina di Glossop nella contea di Derbyshire. Si chiamava Vivienne Isabel Swire, aveva diciassette anni e solo nel 1982 acquisì il cognome Westwood.

Unique, unlike, everlasting. Vivienne Westwood is 70 years on 8th april. From 30 years she's been working in fashion, is popular and can still be talked about herself. Strong, determined woman, often exaggerated but with only once chance, to fight for a better world.
In 1958 she moved to London, leaving the city Glossop in Derbyshire. She was Vivienne Isabel Swire, 17 years old and only in 1982 acquired the surname Westwood.

“ Sono sempre stata coraggiosa, eroica, con una grande joie de vivre” lei stessa si descrive così. Importante è stato l’incontro con Malcom Mclaren e così la nascita del Punk. Diciotto anni lui, ventiquattro lei, non fu amore a prima vista ma dal 1970 iniziarono a lavorare insieme come stilisti e andarono avanti per più di dieci anni.

 Modesta lei, egocentrico lui con la voglia di stupire sempre di più. Lei stessa afferma: “ il punk fu solo una brillante operazione di marketing. Cosa cambiammo?Nulla. Creammo un look straordinario, questo si. Ma da qui a mettersi su un piedistallo, no. “.

It wasn't love at first sight but from 1970 they started to work togheter as designer for more then 10 years. 
She was self-effacing and he was egocentric and always wanted to surprise. She affirms: " punk was only a brilliant marketing's operation. What did we change? Nothing. We created a straordinary look, that's yes. But please don't put me on the throne!"

Alla fine degli anni settanta cominciò a fare moda a livello industriale, quando la partenership con Maclare- amico, amante e padre dei suoi figli- arrivò alla fine. Da sempre amante della politica, le sue collezioni non dovevano essere delle semplici realizzazioni di abiti ma dovevano contenere un messaggio politico di ribellione, di protesta contro qualcosa.

Annoiata da Internet, dal nazionalismo, e dalla propaganda, afferma che c’è solo un rimedio ai mali del mondo: la cultura. Per questo non utilizza il computer, non viaggia, non guarda la televisione, non va al cinema. Il tempo che ha a disposizione lo impiega nella lettura. E’ il suo più grande passatempo, questo lo dimostra anche l’arredamento del suo ufficio, niente manichini, niente stoffe, niente schizzi, solo scaffali pieni di libri.
D’altronde come lei stessa più volte ha dichiarato, “la cultura è la radice dell’intelligenza.”

Boring about the Internet, nationalism and propaganda, she says that there is only one solution for the world: culture. For this reason, she doesn't use computer,doesn't travel, doesn't go to cinema or watch TV. When she has free time, she reads. Reading is her biggest hobby and it's possible to see it also in her furnishing: no figures, no material, no sketch, only a shep pleint of books.
In any case, as she often says: " culture is the root of inteligence."
